Symptom

After failed setup attempts, the setup will show this error message:

Cause 

SQL Server or SQL Compact setup hangs forcing a reboot of the machine.

Sometimes the SQL Server process is very very slow starting up for the first time.

Resolution 

 As a workaround use Regedit to delete the Wasp tree under HKLM then reinstall successfully.
