What usually causes this error is that you are trying to open a large report while some other client is accessing the database. This is handled purely by Crystal Reports (a third-party software). Make sure that there is no other person accessing the database if you are trying to pull up a large report. Also, network speed has a good deal to do with this. If the network is slow, then Crystal Reports times out. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to resolve this problem. If the application is also installed on the server, one suggestion is to open large reports from the server to avoid this problem.
