Symptom: Every time you open a label that was updated from v6 or earlier, it gives an "Error Opening File" message, and shows the label with a 3 inch by 3 inch layout.
Cause: This happens specifically when the label file is using an external data source, and that connection required a new password or other change after upgrading to the new version. If the data connection was edited rather than removed and re-added, it sometimes does not load properly, interrupting the process of opening the label file before the layout settings are applied.
Resolution: On the Data tab, click Remove Connection, then recreate it. Once it is reconnected and the correct database table is selected, go back to the Design tab and click Layout to select the correct layout settings. On the Content tab for each label object linked to the external data, click Database, then select the correct database column for that object.
For example, if you are using a customized Asset Tag label from a prior version:
- On the Data tab, click Remove Connection and confirm.
- Create the new connection by clicking ODBC > ODBC Configuration. Select MobileAsset from the source name drop down, then enter AssetReader for the user and ReadOnly@1ReadOnly@1 for the password. Test Connection to be sure the password is correct, then click OK and Apply.
- Cancel the Object-to-Column Mappings window, since it has the wrong table selected, then select the vLabelerAsset_AssetTag table.
- On the Design tab, click Layout, make sure the correct label size is selected, and Done to refresh the layout selection.
- If the Properties pane is not on the right side of the window, click Reset Docking. Click the barcode to select it, then click Content in the Properties pane. Click Database and select asset_tag for the content source. The placeholder will change to 123456789. Change it as desired and adjust the barcode position as needed.
- Save and close the label, then reopen to ensure the changes have remained.
