Note: This procedure is unsupported. Make a backup copy of your PageLayouts.xml file before editing it. If you encounter problems with the changes you make to the file, the only support advice we would have is to restore the backup copy, or reinstall the Labeler program.
In the Design tab, Layout, and Print tab, Layout dialog boxes, the default Layout Templates (label sizes with Family & Type) that come with the program are not editable and unable to be deleted. This procedure gives advanced information about making them editable or even deleting them, for users who do not wish to see the Layout Templates that they do not use. The changes discussed in this article will affect all users of Labeler 7 on this computer.
The settings are stored in an XML configuration file. To edit it, you will need to use a text editor (such as Notepad) or a full-featured XML editor (which is beyond the scope of this article). Location of the file:
Windows Vista or later (10, 8, 7):
C:\ProgramData\Wasp Barcode Technologies\Wasp Labeler V7\22.214.171.124\PageLayouts.xml
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Wasp Barcode Technologies\Wasp Labeler V7\126.96.36.199\PageLayouts.xml
Before editing the file, quit Labeler first. Open the PageLayouts.xml file in your editor of choice. You can try right-clicking the file, then Open With, then pick the editor application. If you try to open the file, and it opens in Internet Explorer, just close that window and try another editor, since IE cannot edit the file. The Notepad text editor that comes with Windows should work fine. You will see a long column of XML (Extensible Markup Language). Each section that starts with <PageLayout> and ends with </PageLayout> corresponds to one Layout Template entry in Labeler 7. Here's an example:
<PageLayout> <LCID>1078</LCID> <Family>Avery Laser</Family> <Type>5095</Type> <Description>Name Badge</Description> <Across>2</Across> <Down>4</Down> <MarginTop>0.583</MarginTop> <MarginLeft>0.688</MarginLeft> <SpaceHorz>0.375</SpaceHorz> <SpaceVert>0.167</SpaceVert> <LabelWidth>3.375</LabelWidth> <LabelHeight>2.333</LabelHeight> <RoundedBorder>1</RoundedBorder> </PageLayout>
You can figure out what most of the entries are: Family is Avery Laser, Type is 5095, Description is Name Badge, etc.
There are a couple of options for editing:
1. Directly edit/delete the Layout Template settings in this file.
2. Modify the Layout Template settings to enable editing, then edit the Layout Template within the Labeler v7 program.
If you want to delete a Layout Template by directly editing the PageLayout.xml file, remove all the lines in one section, starting with <PageLayout> and ending with </PageLayout> (usually about 15-16 lines total).
If you want to make a particular Layout Template editable (or deleteable) within Labeler 7, add a line to its PageLayout section: <CreatedByUser>1</CreatedByUser>, for example (note the new line near the end):
<PageLayout> <LCID>1078</LCID> <Family>Avery Laser</Family> <Type>5095</Type> <Description>Name Badge</Description> <Across>2</Across> <Down>4</Down> <MarginTop>0.583</MarginTop> <MarginLeft>0.688</MarginLeft> <SpaceHorz>0.375</SpaceHorz> <SpaceVert>0.167</SpaceVert> <LabelWidth>3.375</LabelWidth> <LabelHeight>2.333</LabelHeight> <RoundedBorder>1</RoundedBorder> <CreatedByUser>1</CreatedByUser> </PageLayout>
Adding the <CreatedByUser> line will allow you to uncheck the Lock Edits checkbox, as well as delete the Layout Template completely in Labeler 7.
After you have made your desired changes to the file, save and close it, then launch Labeler 7 to see the effect of your changes.
