PROBLEM: During the install of InventoryControl 7, .NET 3.5 will not install. As a result MSSQL 2008 R2 Express does not install and the client has no database to connect to.
CAUSE: Microsoft Windows Server 2012 includes the .NET Framework 4.5, however some applications require the .NET Framework 3.5.
Solution: Server Manager can be used to enable .NET Framework 3.5 for Windows Server 2012. Use this guide to run through the install process for .NET 3.5 through the Server Manager:
If you are unable to install .NET through the Server Manager with the instructions in the attachment, you can try opening a Command Prompt window with Administrator rights and enter this command to force it to use the disc rather than attempting to download from the Windows Update service:
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:D:\sources\sxs /all
If this process is done before the install, InventoryControl 7 will install without issue. If the install has already been run, follow the attached process then re-install InventoryControl 7 to complete the installation.
